Hello and Welcome.
I am sorry I cant comment on Banding proceedures, however I know the majority are successful and also the majority of Gastric Bypass are successful.
These proceedures have a great potential of giving a person a new life. For me, I was heavy for almost all my life and tried numerous weight loss programs and self conducted diets. Anytime I lost, I gained it back and then some.
I too had diabetis, artheritis in my hips and alot of extra weight causing skin infections that put me in the hospital several times very sick. I now have no diabetis, recently had my hip replaced and the day after that surgery stopped pain meds, I am walking without pain now and this is wonderful after 4 years of pain, all this is due to having the Gastric Bypass surgery and loosing alot of weight.

After time a persons body cant take the excess weight anymore and it gets tired, I am a prime example, and I always thought before I turned 40 I was someone special because I was healthy and fat and did almost all activities I wanted. When I think back about the way I used to think I can see I was really deceiving myself.

I wish you alot of success in your journey forward and again welcome here.
