The easiest thing to do is ask them to bag up half of it when you order; you're much less tempted to eat more than you should if you don't have that much on your plate when you start eating. And if the waitress insists on giving you water when you tell her you don't want anything to drink, don't be afraid to send it back! Most people assume you're being cheap and don't want to pay for something, but if it's there you're probably going to reach for it without thinking lol. I tried to keep it on the table the first few times, but I slip up too easily with it beside me. So unless you want to be really focused on keeping your hands off a drink... make them take it back.
