I am a pastor who has lost (and found) many hundreds of pounds in my almost 56 years. Jay, bless you for your passion in following up on this when many would just be ticked, but not do anything with their feelings. I have my GBS on April 16. Yesterday, I spent 3.5 hours in my pre-surgical appt. with my wife. ONe of the things we did was watch a video about potential complications, some happen soon, some are not manifested for days, months, years. But the statistics show that for the majority of GBS patients, things go well...statistics don't help the pain of a son who's lost his mother. I have had to go to support meetings monthly for 6 months, work out with a trainer and see my doc monthly along with his nutritionist and nursing staff...Because of your post, I will be especially mindful of liver function. You see, it's because of my liver that I have the bypass. Medicine (NSAIDS) I take for my deteriorated hip are liable to ruin my liver, so I have to lose weight "fast and forever" in order to get the hip surgery. But I'm blathering on about me....Just want to say how much I ache for you. You are about the age of my son--what if I die on the table or shortly after? How will he be feeling? Of course I do not expect this outcome. But I hope he'd be a strong advocate for organ donation. Formerly a hospital chaplain, I have been involved in all sides of donor activity. Anyway, I guess I want to gently remind you that Wikpedia is not necessarily the best place to get your statistics...But I don't want to be a dickhead about it. I am so sorry for all you and your dear Mom had to face. Sorry, Jay.
