EGD With Sclerotherapy....
I had an Endoscopy done on monday.. and sure enough the outlet from my stomach to my intestine was larger then "normal" so they had to do sclerotherapy (injecting something into the area to make the outlet smaller, aka making scar tissue). I was rather surprised by the procedure. Everyone who talked to me about it and even people i overheard talking about it next to me said i wouldn't remember it and i'd be sleeping if not very close to it. Well i was VERY much awake during the whole thing. Infact the doctor made a comment that made me smile, i would have laughed but that is hard to do with a tube down your throat. The endoscopy part wasn't too bad, the worst part of that was when they took the tube out, it was very uncomfortable. It was rather interesting seeing them do the injections, but not feeling it right away. The procedure only took about 5 minutes. As they were wheeling me out of the room my stomach started hurting really bad. It felt like someone was stabbing me in the stomach. They gave me morphine which didn't touch the pain at all. After 20 minutes of being in pain they gave me something else which didn't really help much at all either. The ride home was awful, i thought i was going to throw up (but thankfully i did not). I couldn't stand up for hours without getting very dizzy (i think this was due to the pain medications.) The pain finally settled down late in the evening and i could stand up for short periods of time. By morning the pain was pretty much gone. It flaired up for about a day when i would eat, but it was very mild. I have no discomforts now, however i do not see any change in feeling full faster yet.
The one thing that made me mad was how they put the blood pressure cuff on. When they got me to recovery they hooked me up to the blood pressure machine again. I ripped the cuff off me because it was ripping at my skin, between that and my stomach pain i didn't want to deal with it. Well i realized last night why my arm was hurting so bad... i actually have broken blood vessels in lines all around my arm from the cuff.
they say it will take up to 6-8 weeks to get the full effects of this procedure.. but hopefully it will help me not be so hungry all the time. we shall see....
