Default Hello all....my experience...due 3-10-08

I have been going through the same thing. This is our first child....a boy. But, I am starting later in life(35) so I automatically fall into the "high risk" group for pregnancy. I had the Lap Band surgery in 2001. Seems like such a long time ago!! I passed the first two gestational diabetes tests, and this last one done two weeks ago(that was six weeks out)...I failed. I now have to prick my finger four times a day, give myself two insulin shots a day, and see a specialist once a week. Shesh. Now, that I can handle...even hating needles! But what I haven't been able to handle....insomnia, excessive saliva and drooling/coughing at night. For the past two months I have slept sitting up.....and even sitting up I choke and cough on my own saliva ALL night long. The first hour I go to bed I zonk out...and then it starts. I am sitting up propped up against 4 pillows and I am still choking on my own saliva. I just don't get it. No one ever warned me about this. And, I do think it has something to do with my lap band as I still have 2 CC's in the band. If there is a next pregnancy, I will have the CC's removed. I haven't had any removed this time because its a three hour drive....and another $400 bill I just didn't want to deal with. Do you think that the band is causing the excess saliva and GERD?

This week I welcomed edema...my feet and ankles are swollen to the max. If you work full time like me, you will need to find a comfy pair of shoes for work.

Madness I tell you. But all will be worth it in a few weeks.....thats the only way I am getting through it day to day. Oh, and I found out yesterday my little boy has a head full of hair!! lol
