Tricia, I just wanted to send some prayers and good wishes your way as you begin the search for a spiritual home. My suggestion is to visit a lot of churches of different denominations, plus any non-Christian options (Buddhism or Judaism, for example) that you think might fit your belief system. Don't be afraid to ask questions!
I was raised first as a Methodist and then as a Baptist, the latter of which soured me on organized religion and "Christians" for a loooooong time. I had always loved the pomp and ceremony of Roman Catholic masses, but as a gay man, I had some real disagreement with the Church's stance on gays, women in the church, etc. As part of my spiritual journey, I joined an Episcopal church around three years ago and have definitely found where I want and need to be. I've been privileged to meet many "seekers" on my journey and am amazed at how diverse our paths are, all seeking the place where we feel at home. Wherever your path takes you (and your family), I hope you enjoy the journey!
