I'm not sure if you have had the band or the bypass. If it's the band then I don't think sugar has an effect (but obviously still not good for you!).
If you've had the bypass then sugar is a big no no. For most people it causes 'dumping' - palpitations, sweats, crippling stomach pains and lots of other things. I have to limit myself to 5-7 grams of sugar at any one time and I'm ok but everyone is different.
