I read a 'birth order' book a few years back and it made the argument that if your kids are seven years apart they are considered only children in the birth order. I think 6 years old is just about the perfect age to add a sibling. Kids that age seem mature enough to function 'on thier own' while you care for a newborn.

He is my step son and we only have him every other weekend. They will both still be like only children because they will only be together 4 days a month.
Oh well we will make the best of it.
