Dear Vim,
Amazing, you are really tallented in writing, and with a lot of humour. I am so glad it went all fine so far. My experience was a little different as I had few breathing problems, 2 small complications (wound infection, and 2 weeks later a stenosis of the anastomosis), and was therefore longer and more often back to the hospital, and could go back to work only after 7 weeks.
I can only underline the importance of having a physician whom we trust: I had to change my physician, the former one was not explaining me too much (despite I have a scientific background), giving me too many medications, and telling me that if I do what he says I will have no problems (when asking him about hair loss, osteoporosis, sight problems, anemia, neuropathies) What a simplistic answer from a professional.
I am now with one of the top post-WSL patients care physician, and it is a word difference, he is a partner, and I really do have a great interaction and discussions. To change physician was not easy (the former one even called me late an evening home and was very impolite.... I was totally chocked from his attitude).
What I have been doing since long is having a daily record of what and how much I eat. I can only recommend this. With this excel sheet, we can discuss with my physician and see the progress. I still have issues with vomiting not daily but still at leas 1 per week, and this since the beginning. Therefore keeping track of my intake allow us to better discuss the next steps.
Also it allows me to ensure that
1) I control the quality of what I eat meaning getting enough proteins, then vegis,
2) I control the quantity of what I eat.
I also have a weight curve (actual weight, lost weight, different from previous week).
So that I can keep track of my "performance".......
Your investment was really worth, and the more you will loose the more you will feel better and the more you will be willing to continue this daily fight (the day comes when appetite is slightly increasing) against our "enemy".. meaning excess food (Qual & Quant).
The first major change for me was the considerable reduction of daily intake of pain killers (actually NSAIDs), because of the different back, shoulders, knies, feet, hands et pain/inflammations). THe lost of 24 kg within 2.5 months makes a huge huge different.
The 2nd (should be the first) are the savings from food intake. If I compare what I was eating before in quantity and in sweets and crap, and what I eat now, I could easily afford to buy myself monthly a new pair of fine shoes and a bag...........
The 3rd saving is time: I eat less, spend less time, and have more time for others......
Just a point on drinking: it is so hard to drink the 2 liters: I have reached (the good days) the l1.2 liter. I am far from the goal. But drinking is critical, as we do not get the necessary water for our body, and not to forget: for our skin and our face it is so critical, so that we are not going only to be thinner, but look also gorgeous :-))))) on the face :-)))
I have to run to go work, I am late, all the best for our nice Odyssea.........
