I'm not a medical professional, but my understanding is, it's less a question of HOW MUCH a person weighs, as it is what their BMI is. RNY gastric bypass is generally recommended in people whose BMI's are over 40, or over 35 with co-morbidities (such as high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea, etc.).

Are there surgeons out there who would perform a RNY on someone with a BMI under 35? Probably... but should they be? Hmm... that's up for debate.
