linda i just had my lap gastric bypass on 8-20-07. actually today is my first day back to work and i'm feeling pretty good so far. ok here is the scoop i have been a diabetic for 12 yrs now and i was on the insulin pump for 9 yrs. the blood sugars were not getting any better apprx now for 3 yrs no matter what i did. so i went back on the shots of apidra and lantus before my pcp suggested the bypass. my dietician told me that she didnt think that i would every come off of insulin. well i am happy to say that i didnt get off of all the insulin before i left the hospital but i almost did. i was taking 60u of lantus at bedtime and 50u of apidra with meals 3times a day, but now i am on 18u of lantus and 15u of apidra with 2meals a day and this week the sugars are coming down even more so i will have to back off some more. i have lots of energy now and not sleepy all the time now. so i truely believe this was a good decision for me and my family. i also have 3 kids so i am very excited about my new life and my family is very excited as well. my father is like your mother, and now my dad is beside himself about how well things are going and that i dont eat nowhere like i used to. i would go for the bypass instead of the lapband, i think you would get better results. but of course this is something you and your family and doctors need to discuss. but i wish you the best and good luck!!!! regi
