Need Help! What are really bad foods for us?
What are foods that as gastric bypass patients we should stay totally away from. I am putting some weight back on and want it to stop. I can eat anything without any consequence. I just want to see if I am eating very many of the foods that I need to avoid. If anyone out there can put together a list of foods (good and bad) ranked from 1 to 10 on whether we should eat them, that would really be helpfull. Because once we see it and read it, there will be no more excuses.

Hi Jerrod!
You're a couple of months ahead of me.
First - have you considered the Surgical Weight Loss 5 Day Pouch Test.
A few of my WLS friends have done this with good results - especially those who've been hitting the carbs a little too much.
Personally, the only thing I do is avoid the starchy carbs like the plague - bread, crackers, rice, pasta and the like. I don't touch dessert type stuff either - low fat/sugar icecreams etc.
I eat 5-7 times a day but my daily menu is planned in advance. I know from old that if I just wing it, I make poor choices.
Fresh fruit and veg is my go-to. I never leave home without an apple or two in my bag.

I agree--stay away from the bad carbs, or limit your carb intake to 63 grams per day. The bad carbs (sugar, potatoes, rice, white bread, sweets, snack and junk food and most fast food). Also, limit or stay completely away from fried foods.

Avoid:
starchy carbs, such as: pasta, rice, bread, crackers, etc
desserts, including the sugar-free varieties
fried/greasy foods
most snack-type foods
nuts (yes, they have protein, but they're also loaded with fat and calories)
any liquid with calories in it (milk, juice, pop, etc...yes, milk is good for you, but only in limited quantities. Juice is empty calories, in my opinion...eat the whole fruit instead).
butter, margarine, oil, high fat salad dressings, etc
Limit:
starchy veggies such as potatoes, corn, etc
Good:
lean protein sources (chicken, lean beef and pork, fish, fat free cottage cheese, etc)
most veggies
fruit (but don't go overboard on it)

totally unrealistic COMPLETELY! Not at 2 years out. My trainer as well as my fitness program recommends 200g of carbs a day. NOT carbs from starchy foods and crappy foods, but the veggies and fruits kind of carbs (those are GOOD carbs) I eat now about 190-200 g of healthy carbs and i'm back loosing weight NICELY! i eat alot of fruit and veggies and excersize 1 hour a day 5x a week.
And get into the excersize cardio habbit again you'll love it

I was in the exact same boat. Right at 2 years when I figured out that I could eat sugary crap again without side effects, I gained 20+ lbs. I had not been monitoring my weight, and did not even notice until my pants started to get tight. Anyway, I started by cutting out the obvious no-no's (sugars and empty carbs) and the 20 came back off in a couple of months.
Truthfully, as much as I disliked gaining the weight back, the ability to successfully use my tool for long term maintenance was a HUGE confidence builder.

Round of applause from me Debs!
I just checked my fit.day - just picked a day.
1689 calories, 851 of them were from carbs (51% - 231.7g) but not one of them came from any starchy crap. No crackers, bread, cereal, potatoes - nadda!
My carbs came from fruit, vegetables, ff cottage cheese, yogurt or milk.

A couple of months ago, I went through a period in which I lost no weight for about a month. What I did was cut way back on the carbs, increase my protein, and increase my fluids. And I started losing again. I know some people don't eat any starchy carbs at all - no bread, no crackers, none of that. I do eat them sometimes but not every day. And I don't eat a lot of them. And I eat my protein first.
