I went in late for my 1 year blood work and then went on vacation to Maui.
I came home to a phone call from a oncologist/cancer doctor who said I was refered to him by by Gastric By-pass Dr. Wow was I scared to death. I then called my GBP Dr. and he notified me that I was low in Iron.

Well after my visit to the cancer dr. I now go in for iron infussions every other day for 5 sessions. I take perscriptions of Vitamen D and Folic Acid. The Dr. tried to tell me that I probably will have to come in every month for a while even for life! Well I refuse to believe that. Anyone out there not taking your iron supplements please start. I think it was such an inconvience to take those pill for me but wow this is so much more inconvienent. I live 40 miles from the infussion center and it takes 4 hours out of my day.

I will do what ever I can to get back on track. I do not however regret having this procedure done. I do feel much healthier and happier with the weight loss. Good luck to all of you!
Kathy
you may want to have your copper checked, a diff in copper can present as iron dif but is easier to manage once you start taking the copper. it takes a while but eventually it helped me after 3 years of infusions and transfusions.

BTW, the oncologists are usually hematologists also, which is why you were sent to cancer dept.

First of all, I am so grateful to all of you veterans out there who through all of your trials and tribulations post the details so that others may learn. You are at the very least saving some people from some terrible experiences, and may even be saving someone's life.

So I am pre-op and putting together a list of the vitamin supplement regimen I want to begin as soon as I can. This is what I have so far:

Bariatric vitamins
Iron
calcium citrate
B12
Vitamin D3 (not D2)
Biotin

My question is, should I be including copper in this list? Would it be bad to take it if I don't have a deficiency? And where do I buy it?

Thank you!!

My multi-vitamins (Celebrate) has copper in it. I would not take extra unless you know that you are deficient. Changing your copper intake can effect your iron and zinc levels (and vice versa).
