Default What can/do you eat now?

I need some help.

I am now 2.5+ years out (32 months) and I can pretty much eat whatever I want. Now some of you are probably thinking... so what's the problem. Well, that IS the problem.

For the first 1.5 years after surgery I was the MODEL patient. I ate protein first, drank all my water, ate almost no carbs, I worked out 6 times a week. My pouch was a wonderful tool that I appreciated and didn't push to its limits. To this day I have not eaten any sugar filled cookies, candy, cakes, etc. However what I HAVE done, is started eating carbs. I know that this is bad, and I am working on getting them out of my house, and kicking my addiction/craving for them.

I want to get back to eating the way I should be - so this is where I need some help. I need some real world sample daily menus. I know how much I should eat, and what type of things it should be, but when it comes down to planning out what I'm going to eat, I can't manage to put it all together.

Unfortunately I have gained 16 pounds from my lowest weight, and would like to get it back off. If I stay consistent with my exercise and get my eating back, it shouldn't be a problem. My "slacking off" started right about the time that I stopped coming here for support on a daily basis. I think coming here kept me in line, and I will be here every day from now on.

Any and ALL suggestions would be truly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi LoriAnn;

It happens to the best of us. I was away from support group for 2 months due to a crazy schedule, and when I did I showed up with a Pepsi, and candy in my purse. My name is Bridget and I have an eating disorder

After support I tossed the candy, i still hit the soda more frequently than I want to but Im a work in progress.

When I want to lose weight I eat 5 small meals a day, my regular 3 which consist of lean protein and veggies and my 2 mini meals which can be anything from almonds and string cheese, yogurt, celery sticks, maybe a piece of fruit but rare. This gets things burning and me back on track, I hope this can help you. I too bounce with 15 pounds and it freaks me out, when I get up there I quickly take control so that 15 doesnt turn into 20!

Best wishes and good luck always!

Thumbs up

LoriAnn you are not alone!! Your story reflects mine. Except I would eat the high carbs put on the 15 pounds then change my eatting habits to lose the weight quickly using my tool properly. I just kept doing this for 2 and 1/2 years. What I learned by doing that is it is very easy to allow that 15lbs to become 16lbs, 17lbs.....I was out of control and in denial. I went from my lowest of 204 back to 232 lbs. I'm tall with a muscular built so 204 looks good on me...but I gained weight allowing that old way of thinking to come out. I was telling myself oh you look good even though I could hardly fit in my jeans.

Like what you're doing now I had to truely look at myself and recognize that I was back on that path to destruction. Coming back to this site was what I needed. And I'm glad its a choice you made as well. We all need to be around each other so that we can stay focus. We aren't normal and we can't allow our minds to tell us that we are.

I'm proud of you for not allowing yourself to get caught up. You recognize you were in trouble and thats the 1st step. Coming back here was the 2nd step and asking for help was the 3rd.

There is an awesome cookbook called Hungry Girl 200 under 200. If you google it there is a website as well with some awesome recipes. Check it out. Also check out the recipe section of this site. There are some very tasty dishes and the posters have post the carbs, fats and proteins as well.

Start keeping a journal again. Record how you are feeling, your menus, excersise programs....just put all your thoughts down. It helps.

Welcome back!

Thanks Bridget - Knowing its not just me really helps me. I am going to try the 5 meals a day. My down fall with eating is evening. After dinner I'm full - but there is so much time between dinner and bed. And I have come to realize that I'm a "bored" "watching tv" eater. I'm adjusting my workout time to hopefully help break up the evening, and not give me so much time to graze.

Thanks for your response. I know I'm in trouble, that's for sure. And I'm begging for as much help as anyone will give me. I'm definitely going to check out that cookbook. I've been looking for something like that. Something that will give me ideas of what to eat, and tell me how many calories, etc it has.

I am keeping track of my food on fitday, I have tried so many times to keep a journal. I do really well for a day or two, then it just goes by the way side.

I think that coming back here and laying it all out for everyone to see, is what will keep me going in the right direction. I need someone to tell me that I need to get my @ss in gear and get back on track.

Thanks again!
LoriAnn

This is exactly why I need to be here. The @ss comment hit me square between the crack. I need the kick and the move it. I know that and it is why I started looking for somewhere to be. I am in Italy and far away from my support group. This is where I will be for the next 2-3 years.

I'm sitting here eating an apple because I'm so hungry. It is time for bed and I'm eating an apple and searching for support.

I loved reading this thread. Thank you!

I'm a big fan of Tough Love - I just don't have someone at home that will kick my butt when I need it. I have the best, most supportive husband in the world, but he's so sweet, he can't be mean enough to make me turn things around.

So give me some info on you.. when did you have surgery, what are your stats? What kind of support works best for you? Being so far away from your support must be rough, but this group is great, so it will definitely help.

Lori

Hi Lori,

I had surgery, December 07. My highest weight 255, my current weight 156.
My lowest weight 150. I've let little things creep in from time to time and then I struggle to get it back under control. Since finding this forum, I've gotten back on track and dropped 5 lbs really quick. Then, I was off-track again today! grrr.

My husband is also the sweetest guy ever and the Snack King of the world. He loves those snacks and gets really irritated if I have kept them out of the house too long. He has always been the skinny one of us two. Over the last two years we have switched though. I am thinner and he is heavier. He quit smoking and went to snacking and that was all she wrote. So as marriages do, we have flip-flopped roles.

One thing he has going for him is that he likes to exercise. I hate it, but his desire to do it has meant that I am going along more regularly and that is good for both of us.

It would be nice to just have some people to converse with and know they understand but also don't mind calling a spade - a spade when they hear it.

I'm really very happy with my size, I've gone from a 24 to a 6. I would like to be a 4 but I'm not sure how that would ever realistically happen. The Dr. thinks I should lose 10 more lbs. HOW?

Okay, I've gone on long enough.
Thank you for your reply.
