Default Extreme way of eating? And what to drink?

O.K. here I am thinking about a major way of eating. Not sure if it's becoming a Vegan, vegitarian, organic or what it would be called (perhaps just healthy?) but I'd like to focus more on cheeses, grains, nuts, fruits and vegetables. More caveman like foods, exluding the Mammoth! Getting back to the basics I like to call it! Anyone else thinking like this????

You've guessed it - not much meat included since I've noticed that beef does not always sit well with me, and I do not crave some meats at all. The only meat I tend to devour would be chicken, but that isn't always on my list either. I could live without meat - I swear,... please don't tell my "ranching" family.

Just having a small snack suits me well, and of course, I've come to love grainy foods, (really grainy crackers) yogurts, fruits, and steamed vegies, among a slice of cheese every-so-often.

So what is this called? What kind of diet is this? Nature diet?

Also, I'm having a hard time with what to drink. Plain water tends to bore me, I do not like some flavored waters, and one can not always afford those $2.00-3.00 waters (insane) and well - I've succeeded in not drinking coffee - never ever again, and I feel better and more alert with out caffeine. And.... I don't want pop back in my diet - NO!

So, what choices are out there to drink? I have learned to drink hot tea (1 cup) in the morning (coffee replacement), but what can I drink the rest of the day for a nice change where it's not expensive?

I've decided to get back to the basics since I have extended family that is starting to cut sugar out of their diets (they're thin as rails) and I thought what a great opportunity for me to remain where I should be also.

Extra note: I've discovered that I hate ice-cream - makes me sick, which I want to add I do not like milk like I used to. I only use milk on my cereal - that is when I have cereal. So some milky products are out of my life - except cheeses. YUM!

Help!

What you're describing is usually how I eat. Love fruits and berries and nuts and oats. So delish. The name for that diet is all natural. If it grows naturally like veggies, fruits, whole grains, nuts then that's what God or Mother Nature or whatever you believe intended for you to eat. Yummmmy!

I think you should stick with the warm tea for breakfast.. LOVE IT! mmmmm..
I usually drink plain water most of the time, but I remember one thing that I got addicted to some years ago. lemonade koolaid packs. 1 per gallon, no sugar. drink it on ice. it takes getting used to but it really helps you get your water in. I'm nuts about the taste of it now. I could drink a gallon a day easily.

I buy the regular packs of koolaid and make it by the half gallon. I sweeten it with lots of Splenda (that I put in when I make it) and a little squirt of Agave nectar (which has a low glacimic index and is natural) in each glass. It gives it that more of a full sugary taste and feel. It is MUCH better for you than white sugar because it is natural like fruit sugar, but I don't overdo it because it does have calories and a few carbs, so be very careful. You can get it at a local health food store or order online. Agave Nectar - Madhava Honey - Pure and natural sweetener This is a good site for information. I don't remember if this is the site I have ordered from before. I usually get it from my mom's health store that she owns. But anyway, this is what I do. I also use Crystal Light every once in a while. I also use this Agave nector and Splenda in hot tea and I drink it alot throughout the day. I have replaced my coffee with the hot tea and I'm totally satisfied and get less carbs too, but I also forfeit the protein I get from the powdered milk, so don't know which is worse. But there are some ideas. Good luck finding what makes you happy.

Default What about protein?

I see nuts etc... but really your diet, like most vegans/veggies is most likely very low in protein. Not a good thing for a bypassed body. ARe you drink a supplement?

Walmart has Crystal light 10 pack boxes for $2.00, Family Dollar has Wyler's s/f I think 10 pack box for $1.00. Nestea instant decaf tea. I don't like lemon in mine but you could add lemon, or there are a lot of people who squeeze a little lemon in water. Not my thing. I'm sure there are lots of other additives for water too, just haven't tried them or those that I have I didn't care for.

On the protein thing - I'm with Paige. Are you going to be able to get enough protein in? 60 - 80 g. a day? I love chicken and 3 oz of cooked boneless skinless breast has 27 g. of protein. Also, I just bought these Atkins Advantage protein bars, Peanut Butter Granola Bar. They're not too bad, 17 g. protein, 1 g. sugar, 200 calories and 3 g carb. So just with that if you eat 3 oz chicken and a protein bar you're already at 44 g. protein. You said you like cheese. What about cottage cheese? 1/2 c. regular cottage cheese has 13 g. protein and 2 large boiled eggs have 12 g. Sorry, just started a new routine myself that focuses on protein. Just trying to think of non meat things too that have protein.

Wishing you sucess with your new life style change. Hope you find those things that work for you.

Sharon

Default My extreme diet isn't so extreme....anymore

Hi all

Thanks for the advice. I've noticed that my daily needs flucuate where I'll be eating more grainy foods versus protein rich foods. The next day I'll be doing lots of protein and not much grains.

Then there are days where I'm just not hungry, to days all I can do is eat/graze.

I do love chicken so I get that in my diet, along with other friendly meat. Again, there are times that beef challenges my innards - and I don't care to feel ish for about 1/2 hr. So chicken, turkery burgers, eggs, cheeses, some beef in "hamburger" form are still in my diet.

About a week ago I noticed a little hair loss - just a few strands and I knew that I needed to kick-start my protein. So I bought a bag of jerky and some miroplex and my hair loss stopped after one protein rich treatment.

I just need to learn to graze more often, and to get all necessary food groups in me. Some days can be challenging, but do-able.

Also, I want to start up on a new multivitamin but not sure which would be best. I always took woman's one a day, but just wondering if I should stick with that - or go onto a different multi? Perhaps stay on Spiderman vitamins?

Hi...
If you have a .99 cent store near you, I get my crystal light there
and sometimes I mix the flavors too. They have so many fresh
vegs. there now too and also soy milk ( but the soy vanilia is too sweet tho) Also many protein bars and low cal items at Big Lots store. I
have been using alot of ice.

I have not had a soda or coffee for over a month now, preparing
for my surgery in Nov. and a new life.

GOoD luck ~~

Spiderman vitamins while cute are practically worthless from a nutritional standpoint. Beth really likes building blocks and I like bariatric advantage. Yes they are pricey and yes it's a hassle to order them online BUT they are formulated for the bypassed belly and chewable and the best absorbed by your gut. Your health is worth the extra cost. Especially when you figure that you need 4X the normal dose of a standard vitamin sold at Walmart to really get the nutrition you need....

Hubby was taking Centrum Silver per his doc advice... 4 pills a day. Which was more costly than the BA I was taking. When he made the switch, his blood work levels increased by 20% across the board.

Spend the money.... you are worth it.

Was wondering how your diet is going for you. I am thinking of going that way. A little chicken and get my protein with drinks etc. How is your diet going? What are you eating?
