Lightbulb WLS May 15, 2007, Please read, Thank you

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this forum and had open RNY wls on May 15, 2007, with Dr. Keith Marshall at Henry Ford Bi-County Hospital. Before wls had to attend eight pre-wls classes. After wls attend 12 weeks post-wls classes. The nurse Sally who runs the classes is the best nurse in the world. Had wls on Tue. and home late Thur. Dr. Marshall have two emergency surgeries or I would have went home on Thur. afternoon. My wls went very well and I started to walk on Wed. morning. Dr. Marshall took me for my first walk and checked O2 levels and order O2 for me. Left hospital on O2. At the hospital the nursing staff and care staff treated me like a Queen. Herny Ford Bi-County is the only hospital in Michigan to have a GB wing.

At home still moved around like a slow person, with pain well under control. At this point, my only true freinds were popsicle and a heating pad (for my tummy.) Oh, I forgot my husband was the best 'at home nurse.' My first outting was to Dr. Marshall office to have more of the staples removed and the best part, the two drains were removed. Having the drains removed was the Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat, I was free at last. Please note, I was having major pain in my shoulder because on the drain tube on my left side. Next big step for me was to sleep on my tummy, about two and half weeks out. It was a very happy morning. Followed by a release from Dr. Marshall to drive.

Life now is still about eating/drinking protein, protein and protein. I am sorry, did I forgot to said PROTEIN. I have throw'n up about five time. That's not fun at all. No dumping. I have started to walk. I am up to a 2.1 mile walk/hike at Arrowhead Park. The hike is beauiful with rolling 'hills.'

When out for dinner with my husband (we have been married a year today.) I ordered a kiddie meal and have a groung beef taco with beans and cheese. Also order a unsweeted iced tea. I took the iced tea home and waited about 45 minutes and had my iced tea. Told my husband, that I am a cheap date, 3.99 for a kiddie meal.

I seem to like my protein with alot a spices. Before wls I used very few spices. In addition, after wls I have lost my taste buds. Food does not taste the same. I've been told my taste buds will return.

I tried Milady B's cottage cheese pancake the other day and they are very tasty. I have copy many recipes from this web site. Also I would like to thank the members on this forum, you guys are the very best. Great ideas and ways to make life better after wls. I plan on spenting many hours on this site. Thank again.

My warmest regards,
Cat_Lover
