Default Confused on Protein and calorie's

So everyone is talking about their calorie intake and how that needs to be higher inorder for you to loose the weight. Little confused

Protein is so important, I understand that, I use the shakes and powdered milk/chicken and I usually get in my required amount. But as for calories, i thought they were suppose to be low. I am 2 weeks post op and I know I am not getting in 1000 calories a day, i have been trying to stay around 800 or less. Now with that being said does that lower intake affect my weight loss.?

I am 5' 5 1/2' weigh 290 and when i went to the healthyme website it said I need to get in over 2000 calories a day to loose weight, goodness I think i would be eating all day.

I don't have a problem eating anything yet, but I thought it was important to limit what you eat, lower calories, loose weight (of course with exercise too)

So what is more important? Protein or calories? How do you get your tool to work?

My head is spinning right now, not sure what I should be doing anymore.

Thanks
