Default Funny thing that happened today...

Actually, it was a couple of funny things. The first one was a nice thing, but kind of funny-hmmm. I've been very open at work about my surgery -- everyone who knows me knows that I had the surgery and am willing to talk about my experiences, and they all ask constantly how I'm doing. Today, though, I went to an all-office staff meeting (I work at a state government office that comprises a 13-floor building, so it's a bunch of people), and this woman I don't know except to have seen her in the elevator came up to me before the meeting to congratulate me on my progress! I was a bit floored because I didn't know how she would have known about it -- I don't even really know which division she works for and can't remember ever having talked with her. But she said something about my being an inspiration, which was a little embarrassing, but nice nonetheless. So, that was kind of cool.

The second funny thing wasn't so much funny as it was ironic. I was on the elevator this morning when it stopped at another floor and one of my co-workers in another division got on with a new employee, a slim, attractive blonde woman that I had never met (strappy stiletto-heeled shoes, short skirt, dressed to the nines...you know the type). This woman stepped onto the elevator and when she saw me, she looked me up and down and her lip visibly curled. I'm sure I don't need to describe that look to anyone here! Well, the ironic thing of it was that several hours later, my co-worker brought Blonde Woman up to my office to ask for my help on something!! It was toooo funny to see her reaction -- my co-worker didn't realize that the new employee and I had never met, so she apologized and introduced us, and it turns out that Blonde Woman had called me a couple of weeks ago to ask for help on this same project that they came to see me about today. Talk about a 180-degree turnaround -- she was sweet as apple pie and soooo appreciative of my help. I was professional as always, but it just pissed me off. I've thought about it since this morning and I don't think I misinterpreted her look -- it was just too obvious what she was thinking when she saw me. Grrrr...two-faced people just SUCK! I can't wait until I can shove my newly-improved physique into faces like that!
