My surgeon recommends 12-18 months, at least a 100 pound weight loss and a BMI under 30. I know he prefers the 18 months verses the 12 months. I'm almost 15 months post-op now and have my first consultation with a plastic surgeon tomorrow. I am not at my goal but my bariatric surgeon feels I have about 15 pounds of loose skin, so after plastic surgery I should be near my goal. I am still losing a bit but it is slow and seems to be stablizing. I was refereed to the plastic surgeon by my pcp primarily since I am having increased lower back pain, increased knee pain plus increased neck and upper back pain. My pcp feels it is all connected to my fairly impressive pannus that hangs low and heavy along with the increasingly hanging breasts, that are still a DD in size. I didn't need a referral from my Bariatric surgeon to see the plastic surgeon. I am looking at waiting on any plastic surgery until I am closer to 18 months out but wanted to get the ball rolling in the right direction. Plus I'm hoping that some of this will be covered by my insurance company and approvals always take awhile.
