My doc had me start mine the day home from surgery - it took awhile to get it down - but it counts as a liquid and of course it provides the protein too - I mix mine with cold water because I like a light taste. I personally use a brand called Pro Complex because it is tasty (chocolate), has lots pf protein, mixes well with water and doesnt have that thick milk shaky consistency others have - but you might want to get some samplers to try a few out. Do a search on here and you will find all kinds of advice on which types are good - bottom line is that a daily protein shake is a great way to get in that essential protein (especially in your first few months).

Good luck.
