I had one 2 yrs ago, and glad I did! (bit long- sorry!)
I thought I was fat and lazy; turns out I was suffering from sleep deprivation! (Still fat thougth.) I had to go to a clinic. There were maybe 3 other people there- 3 old retired farts. Nice men, but big babies! And here I am, a vivacious, Reubenesque morsel in her mid-40's! The sleep tech put them down first, because they were giving her such problems. She then took all my stats, put me on a bed not much more comfortable than an examination table. Yup, ectrodes glued to your body all over the place (ever wonder how they decide the spots?) and a clamp on my finger for oxygen monitoring. I had been told to remove all polish and acrylics, but I just had a French manicure- I love my acrylic overlay!) I was sooo tired I went to sleep faily quickly- I was tired all the time! The sleep tech got me up first, because I told her I had to go into work in the morning and I wanted time to go home and shower, etc. Went back a week later. The pulmonologist told me it was one of the worst cases he had seen. (My fiance's complaint was that I drowned out the tv.) Now, I got approx. 6 hrs sleep. I stopped breathing 643 times! Don't know what they considered "stopped". Anyhow, I have been sleeping with a CPAP machine ever since. I affectionately call it my "Nose Hose". Pain in the butt? You bet, but I love it, can't sleep without it. What a difference! I know this is a bit long, but I'm hoping this is helpful...
