I have spoken to both Dr. Callery and Dr. Potts regarding this specific issue. When I was about 4 months out, I accidentally consumed a carbonated beverage. I didn't realize it was carbonated until the first sip and let me tell you, it hurt! So I haven't gone there again! However, I do know some people who drink diet sodas, regluar sodas, and beer upon occasion and do fine with it. I personally don't want to go back there again.
However, Dr. Callery & Dr. Potts both stated that "there is no Scientific evidence showing that drinking carbonated drinks stretches your pouch". Dr. Callery's stand is that if you go back to drinking Diet sodas, he is afraid you will start on regular sodas again and we all know that those are loaded with sugar and calories. Moderation I think he said was the key to this. They just don't want us to get back into bad habits, that is why they don't want us drinking carbonated drinks. If anyone disagrees, please ask them for yourself. I am just quoting what I was told.
I am not, however, justifying or encouraging anyone to go out there and get those diet sodas or anything, just stating what was told to me.
