Good Question and I think you have a few good answers already. Balance and moderation. I limit my carbs now and will probably for the rest of my life. I do have a little tortilla or potato - maybe a few other things here or there. My focus is protein and good veggie carbs. Some fruit, but doesn't sit well unless I have something else in the pouch.
Fat I can tolerate, and I believe I get more than enough fats in my diet through red meats, eggs and avocado. I cook with olive oil and use very little butter.
Sugar - haven't tried true raw sugar and don't plan on it. I do have to watch sugar alcohols - one piece of something is fine, 2 and I feel ill.
Splenda I use every day and have no reactions to it. I talked with the dietician and she said that up to 2 cups of splenda a day is well within the limits...I maybe have 1/4-1/2 cup total a day, well under the limit.
I find that my tastes have changed and I don't care for or crave the bad things. I have to watch portion size and fats....these are my triggers.
