Cash is always less. With insurance, the vendor has to bill higher as the insurance pays a percentage of he contract rate. A visit costs $100. The contract may say insurance with pay 80% of the contracted rate. To get the full $100, the vendor charges a $125 contract rate to get the actual cost of service of $100. Confsusing, huh?
The hospital billed fo $54K for my 3 day stay, one day in ICU, with a laproscopic procedure. I had zero hospital co-pay...just the $10 co-pay for MD visits. I had Blue Cross HMO with Sharp Medical Group.
